Borobudur, a name deriving from an expression meaning ‘Mountain of accumulation of merits of the ten states of Bodhisattva’ is commonly thought of as a Buddhist structure, yet its initial construction was planned and conducted by Hindu builders sometime around 775AD. The enormous first and second terraces were completed by a declining Hindu dynasty, construction was then halted for some years, and later, from 790 to 835 AD, the Buddhist Sailendra dynasty continued and finally completed the great stupa. The huge stone mass might have then been permanently abandoned, for it was difficult to adapt to the needs of Buddhism. However, leaving in evidence such an obvious manifestation of Hinduism was probably not deemed politically correct and thus the unfinished Shiva temple was transformed into the world’s largest Buddhist stupa. After 832 AD the Hindu dynasty of Sanjaya began to reunify central Java and soon reappropriated the Buddhist monuments built by the Sailendra. Although the Sanjaya were themselves Hindu, they ruled over a Buddhist majority and thus, while some Hindu modifications and ornamentations were done on Borobudur , the stupa remained a place of Buddhist use. During the 10th and 11th centuries there was a transfer of power from central Java to the east, and the great stupa fell into decline. For centuries the site lay forgotten, buried under layers of volcanic ash and jungle growth. In 1815 Europeans cleared the site, in the early 1900’s the Dutch began its restoration, and a US$21 million project begun in 1973 completed the work.

The Borobudur stupa is a massive, symetrical monument, 200 square meters in size, sitting upon a low sculptured hill. The monument represents a Buddhist cosmological model of the universe organized around the axis of mythical Mt. Meru Starting at the eastern gateway, pilgrims circumambulate the stupa, always in a clockwise direction. Walking through nearly five kilometers of open air corridors while ascending through six square terraces and three circular ones, the pilgrim symbolically spirals upward from the everyday world to the nirvanic state of absolute nothingness. The first six terraces are filled with richly decorated relief panels in which the sculptors have carved a textbook of Buddhist doctrines and a fascinating panorama of 9th century Javanese life. Upon the upper three terraces are 72 small stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha (these statues are usually headless; relic hunters stole many of the heads, others are in museums). Crowning the entire structure is a great central stupa. Representing Nirvana, it is empty.

Early morning we pick you up at 02.00 am at your hotel and we start to go to the milder climate of 1200 meters above sea level. There we begin our trekking up to the top of the volcano to see the sunrise. We will see the magnificent view of the lake and the red sky. In the soft morning light we walk around the rim of the volcanic cone to see the crater. This trek takes 3-4 hrs to trek up and down.

On the way back down you will walk through to the black lava which originally flown down during the first and the second eruption. Before going back to the hotel we stop at the hot spring for a swim.

Batur volcano is still active till now, with the last eruptions in 1926, 1963, 1974, and 1994.

We start our fishing early in the morning at 7 am. It just takes 20 minute to the harbors of Nusa Dua or Sanur. From there, we start our fishing along the south coast of Bali for the coral or deep sea fishing. Coral fishing is a type of fishing which allows you to catch a lot of small fishes.

This beautiful barrier reef is extremely accessible to visitors due to its nearby location and shallow depths. The warm, tranquil waters play host to an abundance of plant and marine life. With its close proximity to the mainland we can complete two dives in half a day. This site is perfect for all divers and snorkelers with depths ranging from 2-16 meters (6-50 feet) and visibility around 10-25 meters (33-82 feet). This site is also ideal for diver training.

Nusa Penida & Nusa Lembongan have dive sites for the novice to the more experienced diver. Starting from 2 to 18 meters, the clear calm water has tons of fish, plant, and marine life associated with tropical warm water diving. Additionally, you can see larger fishes such as the open sea barracuda and mantas are frequently sighted and occasionally the weird mola mola (oceanic sunfish).

It’s a 30 min drive form Kuta followed by a 1h boat trip.

Gili Tepekong is known as shark point. It’s a nice place for the more experienced divers due to the strong currents, but those who qualify are rarely disappointed.

It’s a 1.5 h drive from Kuta followed by a 30 min  boat trip.

Padang Bai is a hideaway village and its sandy beach are reached by road in one hour from Kuta. A short boat ride then takes you to the dive sites. Here you can see bright white sand and colourful corals which are home to everything from the smallest reef fishes to all manner of marine life: rays, cuttlefishes, crocodile fishes, and frequently sharks and turtles. Padang Bai is an 1h ride from Kuta followed by a short trip by a traditional wooden boat.

The dive starts in a flat area of about 3-8mtrs in wonderful coral garden with a mild current. The drop off falls down to 30mtrs. It is beautifully grown with soft coral. Many reef fishes can be found there such as angelfishes, napoleon wrasses, sea turtles, odd reef sharks, sapphire yellow-tails, blue-streak, fusiliers. Mola Molas have been seen here, usually in the deeper areas where cold upwellings occur in August through to January.

It is a 2hrs from Kuta and 10 minute trip by boat to the site.

Menjangan is a reef at the northwestern part of the West National Park. The island is surrounded by a coral reef wall that begins at the surface and goes down to 50 meters (165 feet). The waters here are a marine wonderland with visibility around 20-60 meters (65-200 feet), and an abundance of underwater life and activities.

The walls have caves, crevasses and spires and are covered with huge gorgonian fans and barrel sponges. Schooling banner fish, butterfly fish, groupers, frog fish, trigger fish, jack fish, sweetlips, midnight snappers, together with the occasional timid white tip and the black tip reef sharks make for an exciting and safe diving experience.

The dive sites are 3.5hrs from Kuta followed by a 30 minutes boat ride.

This most visited dive site has a 395 feet long beautiful old wreck named USA T.Liberty. Listed as one of the best wreck dives in the world, amazingly enough the hull is relatively intact and has formed a beautiful artificial reef providing a home to thousands of marine animals, plant life, hard and soft coral. This dive site starts at a depth of 5 meters (15 feet) and reaches a depth of 28 meters (93 feet), with visibility ranging from 25-50 meters (75 – 200 feet). This makes the wreck ideal for the beginner and the more experienced alike.

The bay at Tulamben is home to schools of jack fish while the wall at the end of the bay plummets from the surface to 60 meters (200 feet) and is covered with soft coral trees, gorgonian fans and giant barrel sponges. Other animals that can be seen include ghost pipe fish, angler fish, sea horses, long nosed hawk fish and incalculable species of nudibranches, cowries and many other rare crustaceans. White tipped reef sharks can sometimes be found further around the wall.

Tulamben is a 2.5hrs drive from Kuta area.
